About

Baldy's Farm

Our Farm

Our family bought Folly Farm in 1961, moving from a rented farm on a local estate. At that point, like most farms of that era, the farm was a very traditional mixed enterprise. There were a few dairy cows, chickens, arable crops, sheep, etc. If you name it, we probably had it!

Over the years we were lucky enough to be able to expand our farm. Buying and renting neighbouring pieces of ground meant the farm grew from the original 287 acres to the 450 acres we farm today.

Fast forward and the farm is now ran by the 3rd and 4th generation of the family. It now specialises in producing high quality beef from a sustainable grass-based system, with an emphasis on farming in conjunction with nature. This has not only made the farm become more resilient over time, but has also seen the rejuvenation of many native plants and animals, as well as a reduction of artificial inputs.

YouTube

Baldy's Farm

Our YouTube channel started 2 years ago with a few videos about what we had been up to on farm. What started as a 'slow burner' soon became a relatively popular weekly update about what was happening on the farm. â€‹

It quickly became apparent to the viewer that something a little different was happening on the Baldy's Farm channel. Not only is it one of the few suckler cow based YouTube channels, it was also full of tips, tricks and useful hints to improve suckler cow herds across the UK.

This has led to many opportunities for us at Folly Farm from hosting farm walks for industry professionals, sitting on farming panels at well known and respected agricultural gatherings and even travelling internationally to represent the UK red meat industry.

Where it will lead us in the future, really is anyone's guess!
